UNITED DENTAL GROUP COMMERCIAL DESIGNED BY T.K.A.
Located in the Mid-town Broad way of New York City, the United Dental Group headquarter is the facade and interior renovation and conversion of a five-story mix used building to six-story dental office. A new 1,200 SF addition is added five stories to the existing building. Custom fabricated transparent glass panel with customized film inside will be applied on the facade following irregular pattern of teeth which create solid and void contrast.
The CEO of the UD Group wanted to have a unique and unforgettable lobby design for their building. Derived from a hand-sketch of one of TKA designers, the perspective hand sketch is converted to the 3 dimensional space by using three glass planes and light strips. The width of the corridor of the lobby is only 5 feet. Therefore, use of glass walls, ceiling and the floor with light strips (a metaphor of the perspective sketch lines from the original 2-D sketch), create spacious illusion of the narrow space. The reflection of the three planes creates hallucination of unending/continuous corridor where users cannot fine defined edges of the ceiling, floor, or walls of the lobby.
